Electrosensitivity is recognized in Sweden, Canada, and the Netherlands.

Electrosensitivity (historically referred to as “microwave sickness”) has been recognized in Sweden as a “physical impairment” since 1995 and has been an officially recognized functional disability (triggered by environmental factors) since 2002. The Swedish perspective offers individuals with this impairment maximum legal protection. Protective measures are funded by the state. Consequently, electrosensitive individuals have not only a right to support but also the right to an electrosmog-free workplace (any necessary retrofitting is financed by the employer).

Furthermore, municipalities provide housing in non-burdened areas. Affected individuals also have priority rental rights in areas with low radiation levels. Additionally, hospitals offer radiation-free treatment rooms for affected patients. In many countries, precautionary measures against radiation exposure are also taken to protect children (France, Belgium, Austria, Malta). [Link to iopscience.iop.org]

Legal status regarding EHS in Sweden can be found [here]. In Canada, EHS is recognized by the “Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse du Québec” and the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

The Netherlands | Recognition of EHS in the Netherlands (Dec. 2023). The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) has recognized EHS as an official disability. [Link to stralingsbewust.info]

Calabria (Italy) | On March 12, 2024, fibromyalgia and electrosensitivity were officially recognized.

Recognition of Electromagnetic Sensitivity as a disability under the ADA

“The Committee recognizes that multiple chemical and electromagnetic sensitivities can be considered disabilities under the ADA when they substantially impair a person’s neurological, respiratory, or other functions, thereby significantly limiting one or more of a person’s major life activities.” Americans suffering from EHS have a functional disability, as they are hindered by artificial electro-toxins in their environment. Negative symptoms resulting from these environmental toxins often prevent EHS sufferers from accessing public accommodations.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Furthermore, unlike the general Civil Rights Act, the ADA mandates that covered employers provide reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities and stipulates accessibility requirements for public accommodations.

Protective housing in Zurich: A protected building is available in Zurich for those suffering from EHS and MCS, where the use of Wi-Fi and mobile phones is strictly prohibited.

Advocacy in North America: Numerous initiatives and proclamations by local and regional authorities in the USA and Canada are pushing for the recognition of these environmental illnesses.

Precedent in Paris: Wi-Fi was removed from four Parisian libraries after more than 40 employees began suffering from health issues (such as headaches, dizziness, visual disturbances, and insomnia). It was only after pressure from the Supap labor union that the authorities finally shut down the networks.

The desperate search for a “white zone”

An increasing number of people are experiencing severe symptoms when living in the presence of mobile phones, cell towers, Wi-Fi, or even common household electrical currents. To protect themselves, they are forced to shield their homes, move away, or—even worse—leave their families and give up their careers.

Twenty years ago, this phenomenon was virtually unknown. Today, it is a global crisis.

This investigation reveals that the symptoms described are eerily similar to the “Microwave Syndrome” once documented in professional radar operators. The technologies involved are nearly identical, and the harmful side effects have been documented for over 50 years. For reasons that are not yet fully understood, men, women, and even children are developing a debilitating intolerance to the artificial electromagnetic fields that now permeate our daily environment on a massive scale.

Introduction: Where can someone go when they are no longer able to live in an environment saturated with artificial electromagnetic fields? This question is at the heart of Marc Khanne’s documentary. After three years of intensive research and over 60 interviews with affected individuals, this film provides an essential look into the reality of electrohypersensitivity (EHS).

I highly recommend this documentary to anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the environmental and health impacts of modern wireless technology. It is a vital resource for those who want to move beyond the surface and listen to the experiences of those affected.

About the Film:

  • Director: Marc Khanne
  • Content: 58-minute documentary feature + 4 bonus films
  • Synopsis: Due to the global explosion of artificial electromagnetic waves, many individuals are seeing their health and social lives severely impacted. This film gives them a voice. Rather than questioning the validity of their experiences, it invites us to listen to those who live with this reality every day.
